Thalia Sweater - PDF Knitting Pattern

The Thalia Sweater is an all over lace drop shoulder sweater with slight balloon sleeves. This design features an elegant repeating lace motif with a delicate picot edge hem, collar, and cuffs, allowing the sweater to be both breathable and warm. The construction of this pattern is knit in the round from the bottom up, beginning with the body, before splitting for armholes and working the front and back halves flat. The shoulders are seamed together to complete the body. The sleeves are knit in the round bottom up and seamed to the arm holes of the body. Finally, the picot edge collar is worked in the round on the body neckline.

The model is wearing a size 2 in white and size 3 in pink, with a bust circumference of 81cm [32 inches].

Difficulty: 3.5/5 - Suitable for intermediate and advanced knitters. A good introduction to knitting a lace garment.

Size Guide:
The Thalia Sweater is designed with 5-10 cm [2-4 inches] of positive ease at the chest and 10-15 cm [4-6 inches] positive ease at the sleeves. Positive ease refers to the final garment measuring larger than your initial measurement. It is recommended that you steam or wet block the sweater when measurements are provided to ensure you meet the recommended measurements.

Sizes 1, 2, 3 (4, 5, 6, 7) 8, 9, 10 are based on a chest circumference of 62-68, 74-80, 86-92, (98-104, 110-115, 122-128, 135-140) 147-152, 158-164, 170-176 cm [24½ - 26¾, 29 - 31.5, 33¾ - 36¼, (38½ - 41, 43¼ - 45¼, 48 - 50½, 51¼ - 55) 58 - 60, 62¼ -64½, 67 - 69¼ inches].

To choose your size:
1. Measure your chest at its widest circumference, making sure the measuring tape is snug but not too tight. You should be able to fit a finger underneath the measuring tape

2. Add 5-10 cm [2-4 inches] to your chest measurement to account for positive ease.

3. Measure your upper arm at its widest circumference, making sure the measuring tape is snug but not too tight.

4. Add 10-15 cm [4-6 inches] to your upper arm measurement to account for positive ease.

5. Use the resulting two measurements when selecting your size.
For example, if your chest circumference measures 120 cm [47¼ inches], and your upper arm circumference measures 35 cm [13¾ inches] knit a size 6.

6. If you are in between sizes, it is recommended that you choose the larger size. If your chest circumference and upper arm circumference measurements do not align to the same size, you can knit the body and sleeves at different sizes, keeping in mind that this may impact the fit of the garment, and amount of yarn needed.
For example, if your chest circumference measures 95cm [37½ inches], knitting size 3 would provide a positive ease of 1.5 cm [½ inches], whilst knitting size 4 would provide a positive ease 13.5 cm [5¼ inches]. Choose your size based on your preference of amount of positive ease.
